I love this tea because of how refreshing it tastes and also how it helps keep me and baby healthy through cold and flu season. It seems that the first round of sickness in our home always catches me off guard, like this year. The kids have been in school for a WEEK and already brought back the little gift of the cold virus that keeps on giving. Fortunately, I was ON GUARD! and had made this tea and stocked up on tinctures in preparation and was able to fend off the cough and mucus and also keep baby Cole from getting sick too.
Included with the immune boosting/antioxidant powers of Hibiscus, Rosehips and Rooibos, I've included Oatstraw, Fenugreek and Anise to support healthy milk production. All of these herbs are safe for LACTATING mothers, but not for pregnant mamas because Hibiscus can stimulate menstruation.
I recommend drinking this iced or warm, it's perfect all year round. Feel free to add a little local honey to sweeten and also guard against seasonal allergies.
3 cups Rooibos
2 cups Hibiscus flowers
1 cup Rosehips
1 1/2 cups Oatstraw
1/2 cup Fenugreek seed (*optional! might want to eliminate if baby has gas/fussiness)
1/2 cup Anise seed
Mix up in a large mason jar or big gallon bag. I use about 3 TBSP per 16 oz boil.
