There have been countless times as a mom and nutritionist that I get asked, “How do you get your kids to eat their vegetables?” And it always makes me feel a mixture of guilt and pride, then I reply something like, “Well, I’ve never really had a problem with that. I guess it’s that I’ve just never given them an option otherwise.” Because truthfully, my kids don’t get an option. At our house, “This is what we are eating”. Period. And I’ve been feeding them this way for years, and so they don’t question me. I think often we give kids too many options too soon in life (but that’s another topic altogether).
The answer is the same as how do I get my kid to do anything: be an example yourself. If you are stuffing your face with Doritos in the afternoon and asking your kid to finish his peas in the evening, good luck. As parents we set the standards through our actions. So, empty the cupboards and fridge of all things naughty and restock with fresh and healthy. Then you wont have an option either!
